Learn how to draw cinematic inspiration and turn it into striking portraits using simple, budget-friendly techniques. Discover how light, color, and composition from films can elevate your photography. Explore creative portrait hacks with everyday materials like crystals, water, gobo masks, and mirrors to add depth, drama, and storytelling to your images.

You’ll learn:

  • Use crystals, glass, and mirrors to create dreamy reflections, light distortions, and depth effects.

  • Experiment with gobo lighting & shadow play to shape light with cut-out patterns and masks.

  • Add drama, directional lighting, and cinematic flair with handheld flashlights.

  • Create a layered look and depth with transparency using plastic sheets, water, and textured glass.

  • Explore how color temperature and lighting angles impact the emotional tone of a portrait.

  • Use everyday materials like prisms and water reflections to transform ordinary shots into artistic compositions.


What you need:

  • notetaking materials

  • camera and preferred lens (24-70mm, 50mm, & 85mm recommended)

  • sack lunch

All skill levels welcome. Registration limited to 10 participants.
