‘Colt’ivating Great Clients by Colt Melrose
A workshop review by Megan Murray
If you’ve ever felt burnt out, uninspired, and like your business is running you, then this workshop is for you. It’s introspection, therapy, and business all rolled into one!
In the morning, Colt lead us through several exercises to first look inward to discover our own unique strengths and then use that information to craft a business that suits us. The best part is that YOU get to decide what works best for YOU!
Examine your personality
Are you an introvert or extrovert? What genre do you enjoy photographing most? Prefer high service or high volume? Where do you like working? How much or how little do you want to work? Detail-oriented or big-picture?
Reflect on your why
Why do you do what you do? Personal goals? Career goals? Desired lifestyle?
Build your dream business
Based on your personality and goals, what changes can you implement in your business to get you closer to your dream business?
In the afternoon, we discussed how to serve clients at a high level, specifically during the initial touchpoint (usually a phone call). Colt demonstrated that sales is really just listening, identifying someone’s problems, and providing a solution. Clear communication, providing value, building relationships, and following through in a thoughtful way also contribute to creating those great clients, and in turn, great sales!
As we wrapped up the day, Colt shared his favorite business books. Not included in the picture, but discussed during the workshop, are Profit First and Building a StoryBrand.
Whether you’ve been in business for 30 days or 30 years, this workshop has something for everyone. Thank you Colt for sharing your knowledge with the guild! See more behind the scenes in this Instagram reel.
