Websites that Sell by Megan Murray
A workshop review by Joan Reynolds
Megan delivered an outstanding workshop entitled, “Websites that Sell”. She emphasized that a website should have one main purpose and that everything on the site should support that one purpose. She discussed that every website should have critical building blocks and resources that ultimately should be designed to attract traffic.
During this highly interactive class, we discussed common website mistakes along with an audit checklist which prove to be keys to highly effective web site design. Megan talked about the importance of being you on your site and the role of branding throughout the site. In order to achieve branding she suggested creating a mood board and constantly checking for consistent branding, ie: how does the website make you feel, what words would you use to describe it, consistency of fonts and colors, etc.
Megan touched on some technical aspects such as Google Analytics and SEO as metrics by which one could track the traffic to a website.
Perhaps one of the most invaluable parts of the workshop was the voluntary review of some of the participants’ websites. Each participant gained feedback not only from Megan but also from other members of the class themselves. Points of view that were discussed included: what problems do I solve, how will my clients feel after I solve their problem, how does someone hire me, what value do I add, what is my unique selling proposition.
In summary, Megan hit a home run with this workshop. I highly recommend this workshop to anyone who is considering taking a fresh look at the viability of their website and wants to ensure that all of its aspects are indeed focused on presenting a consistent message and selling relevant services.
