Commericial Photography Workflows by Dee Zunker

A workshop review by Kathy Kinser

Dee Zunker’s workshop was an in-depth, practical guide for photographers looking to tighten and professionalize their commercial photography workflows. The session opened with  emphasizing that a strong workflow is not just about editing images, but about delivering consistent value to clients from the very first interaction.  Dee demonstrated how she uses Zoho Books (a comprehensive accounting software) to organize her business process.

From there, Dee guided us step-by-step through the entire production pipeline — from capture to delivery — showcasing how a structured workflow helps save time, reduce errors, and improve the client experience.

A key portion of the workshop explored different software selections — Lightroom, Capture One, Camera Raw, Photoshop, and even Evoto — outlining the pros and cons of each depending on the type of job.

Dee walked us through the steps she uses when processing the images from different types of commercial work – Events, Architecture, Product Photography & Headshots.

Another highlight of the workshop was Dee’s live headshot session demo. As an associate of Peter Hurley, Dee brought in those signature techniques — demonstrating with PPGH member Felisha Cheadle as the model. We had the opportunity to watch:

  • The lighting setup in action

  • Dee’s effective and clear posing direction

  • Felisha’s image selection process during the session

  • And the full post-processing workflow, from retouching to export

It was a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the technical and interpersonal skills that make for a successful headshot session — and how those skills tie directly into an efficient delivery workflow.

Dee’s teaching style is clear, professional, and deeply informed by real-world experience. Whether you’re refining your existing processes or building your commercial photography workflow from scratch, this session delivered real value.
