Travel & Landscape Photography by Hugh Hargrave

A workshop review by Melissa Matyiko

Hugh Hargrave delivered an excellent workshop that blended classroom instruction with real-world shooting opportunities. We began the afternoon in my studio, where Hugh broke down the technical and artistic aspects of travel and landscape photography. His teaching style was approachable yet inspiring - perfect for both refreshing fundamentals and pushing creative boundaries.

Over a working lunch at Benno’s Seafood on the Seawall, Hugh continued the conversation in a relaxed setting, answering questions and sharing personal insights from his career. Afterward, we took the classroom outdoors, photographing on The Strand and along the beach. This balance of instruction, hands-on practice, and real-time feedback was invaluable.

Participants left with not only stronger technical skills, but also new ways of seeing and capturing the world. The structure of the day, with studio learning, community over lunch, and practical shooting, made the workshop both educational and memorable.

Highly recommended for anyone pursuing PPA merits or simply wanting to grow as a travel and landscape photographer.
